Fazeley is set to receive a welcome boost to new housing thanks to Staffordshire-based property developer, Fresh Space.
The company has announced the acquisition of a historic canal side site that will be developed into seven two-bedroom apartments and seven three and four-bedroom townhouses. The planned development at the former boatyard on Lichfield Street has received a green light from the local authority after Fresh Space’s carefully considered plans were presented.
Fresh Space is one of the UK’s rising stars in a buoyant home-building market and has become recognised for its work in creating exciting developments from period properties and sites of historic significance. The Boatyard at Fazeley will be no exception.
The apartments and townhouses will be built overlooking the Fazeley to Birmingham canal on a site that was formerly a centre for the building and repair of canal barges – one time central to the Midlands’ economy in transporting goods and more latterly for leisure. The development will retain aspects of the original building on the site with the remaining new build properties reflecting its character.
Rob Rafferty, Group managing Director of Fresh Space, is confident that both local buyers and those from further a field will be keen to get their hands on the properties. He explains: “We saw Fazeley as an ideal location for an exciting new development of this type. It has great local amenities as well as transport links and the views onto the canal will make this something really special.
We also believe that Fazeley will see continued investment with further developments and regeneration. If we can offer local residents the opportunity to buy a well-designed and constructed home as well as attracting people into Fazeley bringing additional income to the area, it has to be a win-win situation.”
Fresh Space has won recognition and awards for its developments which incorporate local materials, intelligent design and contemporary styling. The first properties at the Boatyard will be ready for purchasers to take up residence in September 2008.
