Lichfield property developer Fresh Space scooped a top accolade at the prestigious South Staffordshire Design awards.
The company’s Old Stoneyard development was awarded highly commended status within the residential property developer category at the awards, held at Uttoxeter racecourse this week.
The awards, organised by the Southern Staffordshire Partnership, seek to promote the achievement of excellence in design and construction of buildings and spaces within Southern Staffordshire. The judging panel received a record 44 submissions with only 16 projects selected for the final shortlist.
Fresh Space is one of the UK’s most exciting young property development companies. Established in 2001, it focuses on developing distinctive homes that feature heavily on style and design as well as excellent build quality. Many of its developments have given a new lease of life to old and historic buildings or sites across Staffordshire.
Dating back to 1743, The Old Stoneyard was originally a tan yard and orchard in the possession of the Corporation of Sub Chanter and Vicars Choral of Lichfield Cathedral.
The restoration project now comprises of new build two and three bedroom houses and one bedroom apartments that sit sympathetically with the existing Grade II listed stable conversion, cottage and school rooms.
The award provides recognition to a project that posed particular challenges to the developer. Group managing director Rob Rafferty comments:
“I am delighted to have received the award for the Old Stoneyard development, particularly as the site’s location within a conservation area posed specific constraints on the restoration project.
The project successfully combined the aesthetics of the surrounding area with the practical requirements of homeowners, incorporating natural materials and building methods that are consistent with other neighbouring buildings.”
